A GOLDEN VENTURE

The Tidger family is surprised to learn that Mrs. Pullen, the sister of Mrs. Tidger, has inherited two thousand pounds. As news of the inheritance spreads, two older men, Mr. Wiggett and Mr. Miller, begin to show interest in Mrs. Pullen, clearly with the intention of winning her hand in marriage and gaining control of her fortune. The Tidgers are wary of the men's intentions, but Mrs. Pullen seems oblivious to their true motives. Mr. Miller, in an attempt to outdo Mr. Wiggett, devises a plan to spread false information that Mrs. Pullen has lost her fortune, believing that this will make her more receptive to his proposal. However, his plan ultimately backfires when he discovers that the initial news of the inheritance was actually a mistake, and Mrs. Pullen never had the fortune to begin with. Despite this, Mrs. Pullen has already agreed to marry Mr. Miller, leaving him to deal with the consequences of his own deceit.
